During the session “ doing more with less – what can we learn from managing drought” Dr Dilip Kulkarni from Jain Irrigation said that technologies must be compatible with smallholder farmers' needs in the Indian context. Combined application of fertigation and micro-irrigation for e.g. lead to an increase of nutrition efficiency. In a country with 17% of the world's population, 2,4% of the land and 4% of water resources the goal is: less water used, less agricultural resources (e.g. less land with vertical cultivation), and more productivity. To achieve that business enterprises must be change agents, at an ever growing scale.
